1998 Phase I Engineering Study Printable Version

Click for larger 1998 ALPIn 1998, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) prepared the Phase 1 Engineering Study and Airport Layout Plan (ALP) for the construction and operation of a commercial service airport at the South Suburban Airport site in Will County, Illinois. These documents provide historical background information for the current Master Plan effort.

The Phase 1 Engineering Study provided plans for:

  • Six Parallel Runways in an East-West Orientation
  • A short Crosswind Runway for Commuter Aircraft
  • Passenger Terminal Complex on the West Side of the Site
  • West Airport Access Roadway System
  • East Cargo Facility Access
  • East Airport Access via an East-West Airport Connector Road

These facilities are depicted on the 1998 ALP.

Copies of the Phase 1 Engineering Study were distributed to area libraries including Governors State University, Northwestern University Transportation Library, Joliet Public Library, Crete Public Library, Kankakee Public Library and the Village Halls of Beecher, Monee and Peotone. The document can also be viewed at the IDOT SSA Project Office located at 5710 W. Eagle Lake Road, Peotone, Illinois.
