Local Advisory Group Meeting, April 26, 2004 Printable Version

On Monday, April 26, 2004, the first Local Advisory Group meeting was held in the Hall of Honors at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois. The purpose of this meeting was to describe the Master Plan process and planning criteria to be used in the development of the Master Plan for SSA. In addition, the 1998 Airport Layout Plan developed for the project was shown and discussed. The presentation portion of the meeting concluded with examples of how SSA could be developed in phases. Each phase was compared with an existing airport of similar size and configuration for illustrative purposes. Approximately 60 people attended the first meeting, of which about half were members of the Local Advisory Group. Some of the questions and comments received during the meeting included:

  • Definition of terms and on-airport land uses is unclear
  • The Illinois Department of Transportation could try to be a better neighbor
  • Why are so many runways needed?
  • Drainage and water quality issues are very important
  • What is the project schedule?
