The Local Advisory Group met on Monday, May 24, 2004 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Theater for the Performing Arts at Governors State University. A facilitator led the meeting to obtain input from the Local Advisory Group members on ground transportation, on-airport and off-airport land uses, and airport boundaries for the Ultimate airport. The Local Advisory Group was randomly divided into 5 tables and each group was given maps and markers to draw their ideas on the maps. At the conclusion of the exercise, each table was given the opportunity to present their best ideas to the entire group. The Local Advisory Group members were then immediately polled on their reaction to these ideas.
Some of the common themes expressed by the different groups included:
Transportation
- East-West Access (both on-airport and on a regional level)
- Intermodal Connections (air, rail, highway)
- Multi-modal Corridors
- Freight/Cargo Area on southern portion of site
- Keeping Options Open for
Land Use
- Commercial and Industrial Development should occur outside the airport boundary, growing from the surrounding communities towards the airport
- Green Orientation – provide an open space/agricultural buffer around the edge of the airport, especially the southern portion
- Pursue Collaborative Efforts for a potential sewer district, water district and/or revenue sharing district
