On Friday, June 4, 2004, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved the Illinois Department of Transportation's Draft Projections of Aeronautical Activity for the Inaugural Airport Program. In the letter, FAA stated that, "We believe the document projects passenger demand and aviation activity at reasonable levels and outlines the risk associated with a proposed new start up airport such as SSA."

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced in May 2004 that it is removing Heatherbrook Estates from the list of parcels needed for the South Suburban Airport (SSA). To View the complete press release please click on the following link:
IDOT has prepared a Draft Demand/Capacity Analysis & Facility Requirements report and is making it available to the public. This report specifies the airport facilities required to accommodate the forecasts of aeronautical activity for the Inaugural Airport Program at SSA. The types of facilities discussed in the report include runways, airport navigational aids, passenger terminal, air cargo facilities, general aviation facilities, aircraft rescue and firefighting facilities, fuel storage facilities, aircraft and airfield pavement deicing facilities, airfield maintenance center facilities, airport utilities, service roads, access roads and parking facilities.
