Welcome to the Master Plan Homepage for the South Suburban Airport (SSA) Project.

Click for larger Conceptual Layout ImageThe airport Master Plan is the planner's concept of the long-term development of an airport. It displays the concept graphically and reports the data and logic upon which the plan is based. Master Plans are prepared to support modernization of existing airports and creation of new airports, regardless of size, complexity, or role.

The goal of a Master Plan is to provide guidelines for future airport development that will satisfy aviation demand in a financially feasible manner, while at the same time resolving the aviation, environmental and socioeconomic issues existing in the community. The objectives of the Master Plan are to provide graphic presentation of the future development of the airport and anticipated land uses in the vicinity of the airport; to establish a schedule for development; to propose an achievable financial plan; to justify the plan technically and procedurally; and to address issues in a way that satisfies local, state and federal regulations.

On this site you will have the opportunity to learn about the Master Plan process associated with the South Suburban Airport. As sections of the Master Plan become available for public review they will be posted under the appropriate headings.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has also begun holding Local Advisory Group meetings to obtain stakeholder input into the Master Plan process. Information on the Local Advisory Group can be found by clicking the Local Advisory Group link on the main menu.
